Learning Analytics Special Interest Group
Who are we?
We explore the use of data to improve learning in schools, higher-education, and beyond. Learning analytics is a rapidly growing research field that informs a variety of contexts ranging from day-to-day teaching and learning to policy making in government. The Learning Analytics SIG connects researchers in exploring areas including algorithms for data processing, ethical issues derived from the use of data, use of institutional data, connection with pedagogical approaches, and using data to promote student engagement. As the use of educational technologies in learning increases, so does our ability to leverage data from student interaction with this technology. The key, however, is in doing this in effective and ethical ways.
Our convenors: Dr Kathryn Bartimote-Aufflick, Dr Danny Liu and A/Prof Kalina Yacef.
Membership: Are you an active researcher in this area? Or perhaps you are a educator interested in the application of learning analytics? Membership is free and gives you access to the latest news and events coming out of the Learning Analytics SIG.
Our goals:
- To expand our understanding of how data can be used to improve learning.
- To work with practitioners and community members on ethical challenges in the use of data.
- To support the implementation and of educational systems to support learning analytics.
